The Andrew McMorris Foundation is thrilled to announce a record-breaking year for our scholarships, grants, and spirit awards.

In 2022, the Foundation received 85 applications and thanks to the generosity of our donors and community, awarded: 42 Scholarships to graduating high school seniors totaling over $20,225, 5 Aerocamp Grants totaling $5,000, 3 Eagle Scout Grants totaling $1,350, and 2 Spirit Awards.

The Andrew McMorris Foundation was thrilled to sponsor and support MADD’s 1st Annual Long Island Battle of the High School Jazz Bands 2022 . It was a successful event with talented musicians helping raise funds for MADD. The event took place at the NYCB Theater at Westbury, allowing these talented young people the chance to perform on a major stage with professional sound, lighting, and production.

AMF’s Alisa McMorris was honored by the Town of Brookhaven Office of Women’s Services with special commendation for outstanding service in the Town of Brookhaven. Alisa was nominated by Councilwoman Jane Bonner and recognized by Town of Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine for all the work she has done for the community.

The McMorris family of Wading River recently joined Mothers Against Drunk Driving to honor Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-Brooklyn) for his efforts last year to help advance legislation to increase drunk driving prevention technology.

The Andrew McMorris Foundation was honored to present MADD’s Legislative Hero award to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for his leadership in making drunk driving prevention technology part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

The Andrew McMorris Foundation will be helping MADD present U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Senate Majority Leader, with its “Legislative Hero” award for his commitment to saving lives by advancing automotive safety technology on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. The award will be presented at West Hills County Park by AMF’s Alisa McMorris and MADD volunteer Sheila Lockwood, whose 23-year-old son Austin was killed by a drunk driver in 2018.

New York State residents: MADD and AMF need your help to pass three bills that will help stop impaired driving in our state. Drunk driving increased during the pandemic: from 2019 to 2020, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drunk driving deaths increased from 256 to 283—an 11% increase! Lawmakers must advance DWI reforms to ensure New York roadways are safe for all residents.

Words cannot fully describe how appreciative all of us at The Andrew McMorris Foundation are for everyone who participated, donated, sponsored, organized, & volunteered to make Andrew’s Top Gun Run a phenomenal success. It was a very special day for so many reasons and we are thrilled to be able to raise money for our unsung young leaders and bringing awareness to the dangers of drunk and impaired driving.

The event honors Andrew McMorris, who was killed by a drunk driver while he was hiking with his Boy Scout troop in 2018.

Andrew's parents have turned their pain into purpose with events like this to remember their son’s life and raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving.

Andrew's family asks that those who loved Andrew put their grief into action and keep his spirit alive by supporting events such as the run, so they can continue to give out scholarships and Scouterships "to our deserving young leaders — as well as to assist us in getting the message out there not to drink and drive."

The Andrew McMorris Foundation is excited to announce its first event of 2022, “Andrew’s Top Gun Run.” This 5k/Fun Run, in collaboration with Suffolk County Council of Boy Scouts of America, will take place on March 26, 2022. It was announced at a press conference at the event site this week.

The Andrew McMorris Foundation has picked a fitting location for a 5K run planned in honor of the late boy scout: the former Grumman runway at EPCAL in Calverton.

His parents, John and Alisa and sister Arianna, announced on Monday the run, which is planned for Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Grumman Memorial Park.

When Andrew McMorris was younger, his family would ride bikes together at the Enterprise Park in Calverton. Andrew, who dreamed of becoming a pilot, “pretended when he biked down the old runways that he was actually taking off in an airplane,” his father said.

Now, one of those runways will host a 5K run in honor of the late Wading River Boy Scout, who died in 2018 after he and his troop were struck by a drunk driver while hiking in Manorville.
